The Event, organized by this well known complex, is an amateur tour composed of three phases.
The first of these will be the qualifiers for the national final, with these qualifiers taking place at various locations throughout Spain during the first 6 months of this year. For this purpose, a number of clubs have reached agreements to ensure the publication of the tour calendar as soon as possible.
All those who qualify for the national final can choose to participate in a special tournament which will take place on the courses in la Cala resort during the months of July and august.
In the second phase the best players in each of the 5 categories of this event who have qualified from aforementioned events will play out the national final, over 36 holes, also in La Cala Resort on the 1st and 2nd of September.
Finally those that win in each category in the national final will go on to represent Spain in the World Golfers Championship in South Africa, all expenses paid.
In the World Golfers Championship, all amateurs born in 1997 or before can participate with Spanish nationality and federation code from the Real Federacion Española de golf, playing off any handicap; however the results are recorded with a maximum handicap of 24.5 for males and females. The 5 handicap categories are as follows: 0-5, 5.5- 10.4, 10.5-15.4, 15.5-20.4 and 20.5-25.4.
As a novelty this year la Cala will also be holding 2 parallel events, one of them being a “Revenge Tournament” in which participants from the previous year will play and also, making the most out of the large numbers of visitors who come throughout the year, agreements are being made between WGC organizers in different countries so that la Cala resort can hold events in which visitors can qualify for their own national final.
In the presentation of this event, Jose Navas, Leisure events Manager at La Cala Resort was accompanied by the Councillor Santiago Martin and by the head of the tourist board in the Costa del Sol, Arturo Bernal. Martin showed his support from the Mijas Council, who believes these type of events help promote la Cala as one of the top golf destinations in southern Europe. On his part, Arturo Bernal, praised the initiative of this new concept of promotion.
